Batik

A fun and creative session drawing on the ancient art of Batik from Indonesia.

The workshops will introduce participants to the Batik process of using hot wax and specialist tools to detail designs. These are then coloured using fabric dyes where the wax creates a resist to the dye.

The designs are then ironed to remove the wax. The participants could work individually or in groups eg to create a large banners.

 

Details:

Numbers of participants: ideally 12 due to using hot wax.

Age suitability: 11+

Space Requirements: A room suitable for arts activities with tables and chairs, basic equipment eg pencils, scissors, rubbers would be useful. Access to plug sockets and a sink. Aprons and old clothes as fabric dye is used.

Staffing: A member of staff must be present at all times during the workshop and be responsible for the behaviour of the group.
