African Drumming

A sense of primal unity as everyone finds the beat!

The workshop will explore rhythms from West Africa using Djembe drums and other African percussion instruments. Drumming techniques as well as polyrhythms, call and response will be explored.

Due to the communal nature of drumming, this is an ideal workshop to explore teamwork, communication and listening skills, as well as an opportunity to develop rhythmic composition ideas.

The workshop could also focus on learning a piece for a performance.

Details:

Numbers of participants: flexible

Age suitability: 7+

Space Requirements: A large open space with chairs in a circle. Eg a school hall or large classroom, preferably with soft furnishings to absorb the sound and echo. This workshop is relatively loud and therefore you may wish to consider the impact on activities in neighbouring rooms.
